What is Restaurants for Recovery?

During National Recovery Month, the Alano Club of Portland is partnering with some of our favorite restaurants to raise awareness and support for recovery and overdose prevention resources.

Participating restaurants are donating a portion of sales on a non-alcoholic cocktail or dish to support the low-barrier, cost-free programming at the Alano Club.

This year’s restaurant partners:

Why does this matter?

Substance misuse and overdose impacts all populations, but not all populations have equal access to prevention and treatment.

Oregon is 2nd in the nation in substance use among adolescents and adults.

Oregon is last in the nation in availability of treatment and services.

The overdose death rate in Oregon has risen 240% since 2019.

Why restaurants?

The hospitality industry is on the front line of both substance misuse and the pursuit of recovery.

Compared to other industries, workers in the hospitality industry are the most at risk for illicit drug use and substance use disorders, and they are the third most at risk for heavy alcohol use.

It is also one of the industries leading the way to promote recovery and overdose prevention, a movement led by nationally-renowned chefs such as Gregory Gourdet, Gabriel Rucker, and Sarah Schafer—all of whom call Portland home and have partnered with the Alano Club on programs like Plates for the People and Project RED.

What is the Alano club of portland?

We have been a leading source of recovery support in Oregon for 70 years.

Our mission is to provide a welcoming, compassionate, and accessible recovery support environment for individuals and families in or seeking recovery — however they define it — from alcoholism, substance use disorders and other addictive disorders. As the nation’s oldest and largest recovery support center of its kind, we provide a variety of low barrier cost-free recovery and overdose prevention programs and services so everyone can find inclusion and resources and approach recovery in a way that makes sense within their specific cultural and linguistic context.

We would love to share more about the programming offered by Alano Club, how you can get involved, and how to support our mission.
